Alan Owen, Legacy of the Atomic Bomb, Recognition for Atomic Test Survivors (LABRATS)

Welcome to Conversations with Authors, where I – Alison Thompson, AKA The Proof Fairy – meet amazing authors and find out what inspired them to write and what advice they would offer other aspiring authors.

In this episode I meet Alan Owen. Alan is the founder of LABRATS and former chair of the British Nuclear Testing Veterans Association. He has written two books on the British nuclear tests of the 1950s under the alias Slaine McRoth – The X, Y and Z Files and Fallout: Living in the Shadow of the Bomb, and is working with several nuclear veterans to help them write and publish their memoirs. He is also the author of Halt 2 Proceed, which offers a simple process to help people through challenging decisions.

In our conversation, we discuss print on demand versus vanity publishing, why you should never make assumptions, and how to use beta readers to ensure your book is as good as it can be.
