New Year – new opportunity to start creating the life YOU want

This week’s guest blogger is Carrie Rose, a client of mine who inspired me to start offering online marketing training! She runs a fantastic group that aims to help women achieve more from life. In this post Carrie explains more about the BBB Club and invites you to join.

So what do you really want?   How long has it been since anyone has asked you that question – yourself included?  I’m talking at a level beyond tonight’s supper.   I’m talking about how much time you give to thinking about how you want your life to be and then taking action to create that life.

It may not surprise you to learn that many of us are just too busy getting through the day-to-dayness of life to stop and contemplate such a big question.  It can also seem too overwhelming a question to answer.  So we ignore it – and wonder why we feel dissatisfied, unfulfilled, frustrated with our lot.

So for this New Year I’m going to suggest not so much New Year’s resolutions but a New Year Spring Clean.  Resolutions are all well and good but I think we often need to take a step further back and clarify our aims and direction in different areas of our lives before we can usefully decide what we’d like to change.   In other words, taking stock, getting rid of outdated thoughts and ideas about our life and replacing them with something which reflects our wants and needs more accurately – points us in the direction we want to be heading.

An effective and simple tool for doing this is called The Wheel of Life.  Firstly give yourself a (pre) Christmas pressy of an hour or so of uninterrupted time.   This is YOUR life.  Aren’t you worth it?

Then draw a circle divided into, say, eight segments (so far, so good, I hear you say!).   Give each segment a heading which relates to an area of your life.  For example the headings might be ‘partner, family, friends, career, health, fun, finance, contribution’ – whatever is important to you.  Then give each segment a rating from 1 to 10.  1 being “this area of my life is currently rubbish” and 10 being “this area of my life is fantastic”.

Once you’ve done that, decide which areas of your life you’d most like to pay attention to (hint: it’s probably the areas with the lowest scores!) Take some time to think about how you’d like those parts of your life to be.  Then come up with one action that would take you a step nearer to creating what you truly want.   Mostly our lives are changed not by taking one giant leap (unless you do) but baby step by baby step.

To the women out there, if you decide you’d like some support, encouragement and fun whilst creating the life you truly want, come and join my Bigger Better Bolder Club.  The BBB Club is for women who want more from life and are committed to making that happen.  The next course runs from the 3rd Jan (evening course) or 4th Jan (daytime course) once a fortnight for eight sessions.  Further details on my website: www.carrierose.co.uk/the-bbb-club

Either way, whether you join my club or go it alone, don’t let life pass you by.  Make 2013 the year you decide to live a life you love.
